Milagai bajji is always special to us because of its flavour and taste. What If this yummy bajji is prepared with the home grown milagai/mirchi ,then it is amazing isn't it?. Along with milagai/mirchi bajji, Vazhakkai / raw banana bajji is also prepared with the same bajji batter. Both turned out to be awesome. Let us get into the recipe.
Ingredients: Serves 4 to 5
- 5 to 6 - Banana pepper/bajji milagai/mirchi
- 1 no - Raw banana/vazhaikkai
- 1 cup - Besan/kadalai maavu
- 1/4 cup - Rice flour
- 1/4 tsp - Turmeric powder
- 1/4 to 1/2 tsp - Red chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp - Ajwain seeds/omam
- 1/4 tsp - Baking soda
- Pinches of asafoetida
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
- Oil for deep frying
- Wash and slit banana peppers. Remove the seeds if it is really spicy. It is optional.
- Same way, remove skin and cut the raw bananas as thin slices as possible.
- Take a mixing bowl, add besan,rice flour, sieve thoroughly to avoid lumps in the bajji batter. followed by baking soda, asafoetida,turmeric powder, red chilli powder, crushed ajwain, salt to taste, mix well thoroughly.
- Add water little by little and mix well to a bajji batter consistency.
- Bajji batter consistency should not be too thin or too thick. It should be slightly thick enough to coat the mirchi/ pepper.
- Heat oil in a pan, dip the mirchi /milagai in the prepared bajji batter and deep fry over medium flame until they are golden brown on both sides. Same way deep fry the raw banana slices and enjoy your bajji with coconut chutney or tomato ketchup.
