Simple and easy one pot meal prepared with rice and dal, that goes well with any raita and papad. It goes well with potato fry also

- 1 cup – Raw rice
- 1/4 cup – Moong dal / Paasi paruppu
- 1/4 cup – Masoor dal / Mysore paruppu
- 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp – Sesame oil
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp – Oil
- 1 tbsp – Ghee
- 1/8 tsp – Asafoetida
- 1/2 tsp – Jeera / cumin seeds
- 1 medium – Onion (chopped)
- 1 no – Tomato
- 3 to 4 clove – Garlic (chopped)
- 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp – Red chilli powder
- 1 tsp – Coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp – Garam masala powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp - Ghee
- Coriander leaves for garnishing
Preparation method:
- Wash and soak rice and dal for 30 minutes. Pressure cook rice, dal along with turmeric powder, sesame oil and salt to taste. Rice and water ratio is 1 :21/2, totally I added 4 1/2 cup water. Set it aside.
- Heat oil and ghee in pan, season it with jeera and asafoetida. Followed by chopped onion and garlic along with salt, saute for 2 to 3 minutes. Add chopped tomato and cook till they are mushy.
- Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder /sambar powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder, saute until the raw smell of masala goes.
- Add 1/2 to 1 cup of water and bring it to boil. Add the cooked rice and mix well thoroughly . Check for salt and add if needed. Finally add ghee and garnish with coriander leaves, serve with raita and papad.
Notes:
- You may increase or decrease the quantity of red chili powder as per your spice level.
- You may mix any dal / paruppu/lentils of your choice like toor dal etc.
