This is my first post after coming back from vacation. Sometimes, a break from your routine is the important thing you need. Coming to today’s recipe, Tofu cutlet or Tofu patties, which is prepared with crumbled tofu, mashed potatoes and other spices. Serve it with any chutney of your choice or ketchup and hot tea.
Ingredients:
Serves 10 to 15 cutlets
- 1 pack – Extra firm tofu (around 350 gram)(crumble it)
- 1 no - Potato (medium sized)
- 1/4 cup – Green peas (frozen or fresh)
- 1 no - Onion (chopped finely)
- 1/2 tsp - Ginger (chopped finely)
- 1/2 tsp – Garlic (chopped finely)
- 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp - Turmeric powder
- 1/2 to 1 tsp - Red chilli powder ( or add as needed)
- 1 tsp – Coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp - Garam masala powder
- 4 to 5 tbsp – Oats powder (dry roast oats and grind it to fine powder)
- 2 tbsp - Coriander leaves
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp – Oil for tempering
- Oil for shallow frying
Preparation method:
- Wash and cook potatoes in enough water until they are soft and well cooked. Remove skin and mash it up. Keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a pan, season with cumin seeds, ginger and garlic chopped, and chopped onion ,saute until they are golden brown in color.
- Add green peas and give a quick mix. Now add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder along with required salt, saute until raw smell goes off. Switch off the stove and allow them to cool.
- Take a mixing bowl, add crumbled tofu, sauteed green peas mixture, mashed potato, oats powder, coriander leaves and required salt, mix well thoroughly.
- Make a lemon sized ball and press in the middle with your palm, shape it like a cutlet. Any shape you like circle, heart, oval etc.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium flame, shallow fry all the cutlets until they are slightly golden brown on both sides. Tofu cutlets are ready. Serve with any chutney or ketchup and hot tea.
Notes:
- How to crumble tofu: Remove tofu from package and thoroughly wash under a cold running water. Pat dry and crumble it.
- Keep flame in medium and very gently while shallow frying cutlets.
- You can keep uncooked tofu cutlets in refrigerator because cold patties will stay together during frying. The patties can be made several hours ahead and fry before guests arrive.
- You may also use bread to help you get that cutlet shape. Soak a bread in the water and immediately squeeze out the water completely and use it.
